Hi Everyone,
We’ve landed support for the major feature I’m testing on Nightly – Desktop Web Apps Support on Windows, Mac, and Linux! For the Linux support, I’d like to thank our contributor Marco for working hard to deliver support for desktop web apps on Linux. See his wiki here to see what he has done so far for Linux web apps support and what he plans to do in the future.
Additionally, the Mozilla Marketplace is live and ready for testing with the desktop web runtime on Nightly for Mozillians only. If you are an active Mozillian and want to help test the Mozilla Marketplace or desktop web apps on any operating system, then go to this wiki to see how you can get started testing the Mozilla Marketplace with the desktop web runtime. For anyone who is not a vouched Mozillian, follow the instructions in this post to help get yourself started with testing desktop web apps. Email this feedback alias on your opinion on desktop web apps. Want to get more involved testing at Mozilla? Then, let me know what you are interested in by email! / June 9, 2012How do you remove an app? I do not see an option in the Add-ons interface or a separate menu item.

/ June 9, 2012Uninstalling is done through Add or Remove Programs on Windows, Deletion of the Application by moving the app into the trash bin on Mac, and deletion of the files created directly on Linux. We currently do not support app uninstall in the Firefox UI, although I know there’s plans to do that in the future.

/ June 10, 2012Thank you for your reply. I read through the wiki and found about the uninstalling bit. Wonderful stuff, keep up the good work.

/ June 10, 2012I tried it on Linux, installed a few web apps, updated the wiki page and filed some bugs (763354, 763358, 763360). The desktop integration is cool, but is there also going to be a way to launch my installed web apps from the browser? I never use my desktop’s Start menu, I’m browser-based (plus a terminal and media player).

/ June 10, 2012Yes, there is plans to support the ability to launching installed web apps from the browser – See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Kilimanjaro/ProductDraft#Desktop_Firefox_will_help_you_discover_Firefox_mobile.2C_apps_and_ID. The current plan is to support launching of apps from the new tab page and the awesome bar.
Btw, thanks a lot for filing those bugs – it’s really good to get feedback on the desktop web apps implementation and marketplace. Let me know if you hit any other issues or want to test specific test cases on linux web apps with marketplace.

/ June 11, 2012be nice if we didn’t have to create an account to try, but I want to test it for now.
